An Italian entity issearching partners and a lead of project. They have a  preliminary proposal refers to the realization of a small pilot plant for the production of Biodiesel starting from vegetable oil extracted from various kind of seeds (Sunflowers, Jatropha , Castor, Rape etc...).

The standard industrial technology for the Biodiesel production is based on the transesterification by methanol , a process that foresees the reaction between a vegetable oil and methanol to produce methyl-ester and glycerine. Since methanol is a product of the petrol cracking, the standard Biodiesel is not fully renewable, being made for about the 50% of a NON-renewable product (methanol) . Green BET aims to produce a fully renewable Biodiesel using ethanol as the transesterification agent instead of the methanol. Ethanol is a renewable product obtained from many kinds of feedstock (sugar beet, cane, sweet sorghum...) and is used as a substitute of the gasoline in petrol driven cars (bioethanol), or blended with gasoline in various percentages (E10, E15, E85) . The use of ethanol for the production of the biodiesel represents an important synergy for the biofuels industry, giving the possibility of realising industrial biorefineries able to convert typical ethanol feedstocks (such as sweet sorghum) and typical biodiesel feedstocks (vegetable oil) in bioethanol and biodiesel . The technology employed for this project is based on a process of transesterification by ethanol.
