Abstract of the project:
Wood quality is of great importance in sectors as construction industry. The main goal of this project is to develop an automated ultrasonic inspection system for wood-based panels, to sort the parts according to quality grade. The system will evaluate defects in real time using different analysis algorithms in which variations in the waveform parameters will be studied depending on the type of defect to detect (knots, decay, cross grain, voids, cracks, etc).
Description of the project:
The main innovation lies in the design of a novel rolling transducer which will permit the installation of the inspection and grading system in-line at the sawmill, without interrupting its normal functioning. Therefore, high quality wood panels (i.e. beams, columns or construction in general) will be identified directly at the sawmill.
